Today I want to talk about the two things we have control over, your attitude and effort.
I have clinics here in Tampa with many people that come and volunteer. To get into Physical therapy school there is a certain criterion aside from classes that you have to do. There is a certain amount of observation hours required. We have two to three new volunteers every week. We have a student that has been coming to our clinic for the last two or three months. He has made no impression on me. He comes in, parks himself in this little area, just watching. I didn’t even know his name until about a month ago. I had a little time on my hands, so I called him over to the side and said, I want to talk to you. I’m not trying to give you a hard time, but I have to ask you, what are you here for? He said, I am here because I want to be in PT school. I asked,” What is your purpose of being here? What are you trying to do? Are you just trying to log hours, or are you trying to make some kind of impact? In life your attitude and effort is what is going to make you stick out. He responded, HUH? You have made no impact on me. I am trying to be as respectful as I can to you, but you have made no impact on me. I don’t even know your name. You have been here for three months, I have seen you, but you haven’t engaged with me or the patients. You haven’t asked me any questions, you’re just posting. You’re just trying to log out. You are here, why don’t you just give effort and great attitude and see where it will get you. He said,” you are right Sir, you are right”. The next time he came in, people were asking if he was a Therapist, if he was the same guy. His attitude and his intention changed. He was engaged, making conversation with people. He was invested in people. He was getting so much more out of the same time he was spending. His whole experience was different because of the two things that changed; his attitude and his effort. Guess who got offered a job two days ago because his attitude changed over the last month? I needed somebody and he got offered a position at our place. Attitude and effort. I am not going to work out for two hours because I know this workout is going to be 100%. It is going to be 29 minutes of work. I am going to go 29 minutes all in! When I go into the office, I don’t know what is going to happen today. All I know is that I am going to give all my effort. My attitude is going to be amazing and my effort is going to be 100%! They are going to get Greg’s best attitude. My staff, same thing. When I get home tonight, I am going to give full out effort and attention to my kids, to my wife until they go to bed. The two things you can control and it will change your day, your attitude and your effort. Go all in people!
