I had the excuse machine ready. This morning, I did not want to get up and go for a run. I wanted to enjoy sleeping in, and being lazy. But truthfully, whenever I don’t run first thing every morning, the chances of me getting a run in are slim to none. It was round 2 pm, all 3 kids were miraculously taking a nap at the same time, Kerry was out shopping for a few things, as we get ready to head out of town next week, and there was absolutely nothing to watch from a sports standpoint… I found myself laying in bed, watching this cheesy Matthew McConaughey movie called “Fool’s Gold.” I kept on telling myself… Don’t waste your time running.. watching this dreadful movie feels better than going upstairs on the treadmill… but the guilt started to overtake me, and I decided to get off my butt and put on the running shoes. So when I got upstairs and cranked up the treadmill, the first 3 minutes felt like I had been on it for 20 minutes. I really didn’t feel like watching old FSU games on Sun Sports or Fool’s Gold on TNT, so I decided to browse the channels and I found on ESPN classic, “Running the Sahara”.
I’ve heard of this before, as it is a documentary of 3 guys that decided that it would be a great idea to run the Sahara Desert… I believe it was over 4,600 miles of running over a 110 day span. Basically it was the equivalent of running 171 marathons… so I guess it was close to running 1.5 marathons every day, without a break.
Quickly my complaining of running for 5 minutes was quenched, and I was gripped to the TV (while running), watching these guys finish this incredible feat. I planned on running for 30 minutes, but that turned into 55 minutes because I was engaged in the documentary.
The thing I probably took the most out of the program was after they finished, one of the runners basically said, “I would not have bet money that I could have pulled this off… this basically shows that whatever you set your mind to, that’s all you can do… so continue to challenge yourself and set your mind to things that you think are impossible and the human body and mind will achieve it”
I couldn’t agree more… it really is a great lesson that can be applied to all of us, runners or not, and I think for me being a physical therapist, and working with people everyday that are recovering from debilitating injuries, it’s extremely important that I remind my patients (and myself) of this principle.
Below is the trailer for the movie.. I only caught the last 45 minutes of it, but I’m going to buy this. Maybe I will watch this whenever I go on the treadmill from now on… it will keep me in check, and hopefully stop my whining.

tennis elbow treatment says
It depends how bad it is but in general I would take at least two weeks off from tennis while doing the integrated exercises. Then if you start to feel better go back to tennis slowly. Start the isolated exercises and work towards the isolated integrated movements. Just keep in mind you have to come back to tennis slowly. If it hurts it wont get better. In addition, it is always a good idea to check in with a doctor if its not getting better.
